Poem Theatrical Response-Eating Poetry

What you're doing? Why? At first, when the librarian walked into the stage, she saw a person, which we change the dog into a person, right there that seems reading the paper. but when she walked closer, the man started to rip the paper up but keep being happy and having a smiling face on him. The whole process will be silent. We felt that the poem sends a strange scene that would not happen, and a scene like this would send different messages and thoughts to different people, and putting words on it will not help with the scene a lot but limiting people's imagination on it. What aspect of the poem will you highlight in your performance? I will highlight the part where the character acting to be smiling or happy and ripping paper at the same time. Usually ripping paper will give people a sense of the character is angry, but what we want for this character in the scene is that the character is enjoying and playing with paper in this process.

Poem Response

Poem Response-JohnZ The poem I chose in "Eating Poetry" by Mark Strand. When I first read through it, I didn't really get what the author is trying to express, I know that he's is trying to show a scene that a dog is "eating" or playing with a piece of paper with poems on it, but I am not sure about what the author is trying to express throughout the poem. After reading a few times, I start to have the idea that maybe the librarian's emotion is not directly related to the dog's thought and emotion. Maybe the librarian was just worrying about losing her job because the dog was destroying books or materials in the library. But for the dog, it's something else, it might be about it getting to realize the importance and fun of knowledge to it, it's clear that the dog is enjoying the process of playing with these poems, and in the very last stanza the poet also mentioned that "I am a new man. I snared at her and bark. I romp with joy in th...

Poems Notes

Ink runs from the corners of my mouth . There is no happiness like mine . I have been eating poetry. The librarian does not believe what she sees . Her eyes are sad and she walks with her hands in her dress . The poems are gone. The light is dim. The dogs are on the basement stairs and coming up. Their eyeballs roll , their blond legs burn like a brush. The poor librarian begins to stamp her feet and weep. She does not understand . When I get on my knees and lick her hand , she screams. I am a new man. I snarl at her and bark . I romp with joy in the bookish dark . 6 stanzas, 3 lines A rough sound was polished until it became a smoother sound , which was polished until it became music. Then the music was polished until it became the memory of a night in Venice when tears of the sea fell from the Bridge of Sighs , which in turn was polished until it ceased to be and in its place stood the empty home ...

Poem Analysis Reflection

- Turns out greater than I expected, I had more ideas when I first started this essay. - In my first drafts, I analyzed what is in the lyrics and how the author used that to express the thing that he wanted to show the audiences. In the second draft, I added my own thoughts toward the song, for example how I was touched by the music and the lyrics when I listened to it. - I think writing the thoughts is the most difficult because I have different views toward it right now than when I listened to it for the first time, which I think also is proof of how it let people consider our growth. - Analyzing the quotes are easy for me, but writing thoughts is harder than others. - I would perhaps put my views toward it of two time periods when I first listened compare to now. - TOP POSITION: Quotes (analyzing), Putting my own thoughts, Title - LOSE POINTS ON: Introduction, First sentences of each paragraph,

Final Draft-7 years poem analysis

Years & Ages, “7Years” Poem  Analysis When a person grows older, they will have completely different views about the world around us, which is the reason that we grow throughout time. We might realize that the world around us is not that great as we thought when we are kids, we might also realize that we have different goals to fulfill in different stages of life. This poem clearly showed this point. In this poem, I will talk about how it shows how people change throughout different stages of their life. The poem talks about the author’s different age groups and their mindset at those times. When he was 7 years old, “ Once I was seven years old my momma told me,  Go make yourself some friends or you'll be lonely” At that time he was too young to think by his own, just like other kids his parents told him to make more friends, walk into the world surround him . when it came to the age of eleven,  I always had that dream like my daddy before me.  So I star...

Lyrics

Once I was seven years old my momma told me Go make yourself some friends or you'll be lonely Once I was seven years old It was a big big world, but we thought we were bigger Pushing each other to the limits, we were learning quicker By eleven smoking herb and drinking burning liquor Never rich so we were out to make that steady figure Once I was eleven years old my daddy told me Go get yourself a wife or you'll be lonely Once I was eleven years old I always had that dream like my daddy before me So I started writing songs, I started writing stories Something about that glory just always seemed to bore me 'Cause only those I really love will ever really know me Once I was twenty years old, my story got told Before the morning sun, when life was lonely Once I was twenty years old I only see my goals, I don't believe in failure 'Cause I know the smallest voices, they can make it major I got my boys with me at least those in favor And if we...

Reflection on poem performance

What was hard and what was easy for you?  Remembering the lines is really an easy part of this assignment because each of us didn ’ t get a lot of lines and it took less effort and time than I expected before the performance. But coming up with how we perform is a really hard part , there is a lot of ideas when we start to consider it and in the end, we have to choose the best of them.  What made the performances interesting to watch?  The most interesting part of our performance is the last part where four of us use our native tongue to say the words that were in Spanish , this is more interesting than just simply saying it in English because it brings to the audience what the author is trying to express. What worked and what didn't in the class as a whole? We should maybe come up with more body movement in the next performance , that will give the audiences a better picture of what we are trying to tell , they can both see it and listen , whi...
